Making her way to the training field Ryuko was wearing her full active duty gear. It seemed after two years of being asleep and inactive she hadn’t grown much which is why it all still fit her. If anything she’d lost some weight but was quickly regaining it thanks to her high caloric diet .

As armor went her gambeson and chain mail where better then average. Certainly better then what you’d find in the typical store bough stuff at any rate but hardly what you’d consider elite either. Considering she was a Jounin it was high past time she upgraded to a better set but she was going to need to run some missions to afford to do so if she didn’t want to put a major dent in her accumulated saving.

The problem as far as missions went was she was too proud to take lower ranking ones without students being involved. As a born aristocrat and one of the highest athorities in her church she was much too important to be wasting her time cutting someone’s lawn or painting their fence. Those things where better off left to the children so they could learn teamwork in relative safty.

Given her recent comma that mean she wasn’t going to be allowed to take on the kinds of high priority high stakes missions she usually preformed until she proved she was up for the job again hence why she was here on the second level of the training grounds in order to work out and test what her current levels where without putting herself in too much danger too soon by diving straight into the deep end of the third level.

“Hmm. Where should I begin today?” Ryuko asked herself as she began to preform a series of simple stretches to warm up and losing her muscles up so that she wouldn’t hurt herself once she began the more strenuous exercises.

The twins smiled as they were at their most commonly used training grounds and could see Ryuko was there, she likely was trying to get a feel for fighting again. The twins themselves had several jutsu they had to train and also work on using their sand combos as they were still quite new to this. They would quietly walk before smiling and appearing close to Ryuko, they knew she likely heard them come, they were not exactly fast or stealthy, but they did not have to be, they had an immense amount of power.

"Ryuko, it is nice to see you out training, I am sure you want to get your body working better, we have some jutsu to train as well and could use some guidance we are still getting used to using the sand."

They would wait for her reply as she may want to train alone, they didn't want to harass her too much as they were sure they made her mad with their talk earlier.

Ryuko was still in the process of warming up when she heard the sound of a soft pair of light footsteps coming from behind her slowly approach.  Given that they where moving almost perfectly in sync with each other it wasn’t hard for her to deduce their identity.

“Hello Kids.” She said turning her face just enough to give them a bright smile.  She wasn’t sure if it was really appropriate to address them as kids still given that she herself was an adult and they where hardly much younger then her but she wasn’t really sure what else to call them.  The way they almost always talked at once made it hard to address them as individuals.   Someone who didn’t know them better might find being spoken to in stereo a tad creepy but Ryuko herself tended to think of it as more endearing.

“Well you know me, Hardly a day goes by where you won’t find me training at least a little. At this point skipping out would just feel awkward.” replied Ryuko with a sheepish laugh. Normally she had a very fancy way of speaking but when she was just among family she didn’t need to bother standing on formality.  That said she would never fully be able to rid herself of her distinctive foreign accent that came from her half German side.

If she was angry with the twins she sure wasn’t showing it, but then again Ryuko was in general a very forgiving person to begin with.  The brother and sister duo where two of her favorite people so they’d have to pull something fairly serious for Ryuko to become truly cantankerous at them.

“Perfect timing. I could use some competent sparring partners.”  said the priestess looking the twins straight in the eyes.  Her face while still on the friendly side now had the look of a warrior on it,  eager for battle with a worthy foe.  Before her coma she never would have looked at the twins this way.  But after all the training they had done it would be disrespectful for her to not acknowledge them as her near equals, if not in rank but skill.

“Happily enough tis turns out that you aren’t the only ones with new things to train.” she added.  Actually she had more things she wanted to work on but some she simply lacked the equipment to execute upon.  She’d have to see Shimiko soon about acquiring a high quality lance before she could learn those.  For now she’d have to content herself with just one thing.

There was a high level fighting style taught to member of the Church of Hakkin.  Ryuko being a vestal of course new about it’s existence on paper but given it’s sheer complexity she’d never had the skill or experience to actually preform it until after becoming a Jounin.  By then she’d had her hands full with other matters.

Now that she was quote unquote “rehabilitating” despite being perfectly healthy was as good as any other time to master the usage of the Ballad of the dragoon. If she could help the twins in the process so much the better.   The idea of efficiently accomplishing multiply tasks at once was most pleasing to the priestess.

“To be honest guys I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to guide you.  I have little experience with the  substance know as sand beyond what I’ve read in books.” admitted Ryuko.  To say she had lead a sheltered life before coming to the village was putting it mildly.  She’d never been to the beach or seen the sea with her own eyes. Heck to this day she’d barely been outside the country except for the one time she had visited the land of frost.

“Still I shall endeavour to assist to the best of my capabilities.” added Ryuko reassuringly.  She was one of the smartest people in the entire land of lightning so the odds where in her favor she’d figure at least something out.

“Speaking of sand that’s an ability you… received from your house guest correct?” asked Ryuko not naming the bijuu in question in an effort to remain discrete about the Twin’s situation while they where in public.  The training fields where rather quite at the moment but someone else could walk in and join them at any time.

“Incidentally has anybody explained to you how using that works? That ability doesn’t put any strain on your seal does it?” asked Ryuko her voice full of well meaning concern.  She’d look into how Jinchuuriki worked in her quest to become one herself but only had a vague understanding at best.   What she did know was that if the seal was damaged enough that the Bijuu instead could escape. She was painfully aware that she lacked any skill in Fuuinjtusu that would be needed in order to repair it.

The pair giggled as she had mentioned she hardly went a day without training, they knew she was quite fit and did a good job keeping herself in combat shape in the past. It also was clear she was not mad at the twins which made them happy for sure, they could not be happier she seemed to brush off small stuff even if she disagreed with the twin's methods at times.

When she mentioned being unsure if she could he;p they shook their head no, she was certainly able to help the sheer fact they could spar her and not have to hold back much was great for training. Naturally, they would never harm her but they sure could trap her snuggly and make her surrender to themselves. When she mentioned the houseguest they simply smiled as their eyes would flash red before turning normal, it was indeed because of the guest. As for her next question they shook their head no, they had not weakened the seal with sand use, they had weakened it but only to save their lives and once to transform into its full form.

"We do not weaken our seal because of this, the sand is simply an ability we have, though we wish we could get someone to craft something to hold sand for us. We want to make a coffin to hold the sand and seal it inside that, with an enhancement to make it not weigh as much."

This was a very oddly specific request but they hoped she understood what they were asking, they needed this to make it easier on themselves. They both thought of a great idea if they could make her tap out she would buy them dinner if they failed they had to pay for her food.

"We thought of an idea, Ryuko if we make you surrender you buy us dinner, if we lose however we buy you dinner. It seems like a fair trade right, I mean what's the worst that can happen, do not worry we won't lose control."

Post by Ryuko Tue Apr 14, 2020 4:17 am

Ryuko titled her head slightly in confusion, she wasn’t sure what worth giggilng about the fact that she trained as much as she did. It wasn’t like she had much of a choice but to continue training if she wanted to stay in peak condition. The priestess had worked hard to reach the pinnacle of what normal human strength allowed.

The only way she could be any stronger was if she had some bloodline of some kind, that or to abandon her humanity and become a monster. The twins didn’t know this but it was funny in a way that she’d made it this far. When inducted into the church as an Acolyte they had conducted an aptitude test to see where her talents lay.

The results of the test had been fairly clear, she had been told that no matter how hard she worked she would never be exceptional. On the scale they used to roughly measure various attributes from E to S they had said she’d never surpass C on any of them outside of intelligence no matter how had she worked.

The people conducting the test were seasoned warriors and she’d had no reason to doubt them at the time. She couldn’t help but wonder what they would think if they could see her now. She’d not just shattered their expectations for her she’d outright surpassed them. It wasn’t like she had any untapped latent talent in that regard either. Her physical improvement was purely out of sheer persistent effort.

To keep pushing herself each and every day, to go beyond her limits until she’d finally reached the point where she didn’t have any room left to grow any more and had to keep working simply to maintain what she already had.

Smart as she was Ryuko didn’t have the words to express the frustration she’d felt upon running head first into a wall that seemed so sturdy she could never break thought it. So tall that it could never be climbed. As far as battle against normal ninja went she was no slouch. She had managed to beat the Battlemaid in a tournament after all but it had been a very close battle. Ryuko knew her own strength best after all and estimated herself to only about average as far as Jounin went.

When it came to the truly strong people like her love Nozomi or her teammate Shimiko who had that something more the priestess couldn’t help but feel inferior. Until she found something more for herself that feeling would likely remain no matter how much she tried to bridge the gap in the meanwhile. Even the new fighting style she was trying to master today wouldn’t be enough but she had to start somewhere.

That said she couldn’t help but feel that the twins where making light of her by suggesting they could make her surrdender. Sure they might outnumber her and they had gotten stronger since she’d last trained with her but at the end of the day she still outranked them and would not be caught easily no matter what they pulled out of their pockets.

“Tis reassuring to know you can use sand without issue. As for a coffin a container to hold sand makes sense. Tis would take time to generate the substance in the field, so carrying around your own source would be most wise. As for obtaining one I’m not sure how to help you there as I specialize in armour so I can’t make one. You’re going to need an engineer. Normally I’d suggest Natsuru but we don’t know where she is at the moment.” said Ryuko with a sigh her lips pursed in frustration.

Drawing her batons she gave them a light twirl and gestured towards herself waving with one hand indicating to twins to bring it on. She was watching their every move studying them as she began to build up a fresh analysis of their capabilities in her mind in order to better anticipate what they would do as the fight went on. It would have been trivial for her to slip in a genjtusu if she wanted by that wasn’t the point of the exerciser. She needed to let off some steam and the best way to do that would be by moving around.

“Honestly I don’t mind paying for dinner either way. but I’ll think of an fitting reward should you somehow manage to best me. Just don’t expect me to go easy on you.” said Ryuko giving the twins a fierce grin. She’d probably look pretty scary right now if she was wearing her battle makeup but these days she tended to only put that on for more important missions rather then all the time like she used to do when she was younger.

The twins smiled as they could tell she felt a bit insulted the twins thought they could make her surrender, however they would prove themselves to her. They had several plans in case the first failed as they began to analyze every movement she was making, they began to focus hard on her words and gestures. Her hand motioned for the pair to bring it and they were more than ready for that.

Without another word suddenly Yua would slam his hands into the ground as a rush of sand would begin to form with Yui immediately began to create huge waves of sand aiming for Ryuko, the amount of sand was massive as they appeared to be giant sand tsunami waves. One thing was clear they were not playing around with this. As the massive waves continued Yua began to use a defensive jutsu as he would surround both Yui and himself in a sand shield. They wondered just how she fought, but she would learn quickly if she got close they also were extremely skilled in close-quarters combat.

    Stuff Used:

    Chakra:
    Yui: 165/180
Yua:145/180 Using S rank version of sand shield
    Strength: C
    Constitution: C
    Stamina: B

    Name: Shield of Sand
    Rank: A
    Power: A
    Activation Cost: N/A
    Upkeep Cost: Varies
    Range: 0m-20m

    Element: Magnet Release
    Skill: Ninjutsu
    Classification: Clan Exclusive
    Requirements: Magnet Release
    Parent Technique: N/A
    Hand Seals: N/A
Description: This technique allows the user to form a shield of sand that can block attacks. The technique is versatile in that the shield can take a variety of shapes and sizes only being restricted to a range of 20 meters from the user. The shield can even take on minor offensive characteristics like protruding spikes. There are two versions of this technique. The first version is a mere extension of the Kazehana Clan's innate freeform manipulation of sand via Magnet Release. This version costs the standard 5 stamina points per post and moves at whatever speed and coordination their freeform manipulation normally operates at (one tier below the user's Coordination stat). Its defense is restricted to whatever grade substance that the user chooses to manipulate via Magnet Release. The second version is designed for high speed movement and rigorous defense as such this version's shield moves at S Tier Speed and Coordination and provides an S Grade defense, however it costs 20 stamina points per post.
Weaknesses: If the user uses the freeform manipulation version of this technique they are restricted to the defensive properties of whatever substance they are using. Note for example that if the user was manipulating regular sand like Gaara with this version, a Chidori would be able to pierce through the shield. Certain techniques of S Rank and higher as well as physical attacks with higher than S Tier Strength may be able to penetrate the Shield.

    Hand Seals: N/A
Description: The user creates a massive amount of sand in the forms of giant waves, covering and "drowning" the opponent in an ocean of sand. The user creates a large sea of sand and manipulates it like a tsunami that engulfs absolutely all the things in his line of sight. This raging sea deals a lot of damage by itself, but one can further take advantage of the sand for a second and a third consecutive assault. The user can control the sand, allowing them to attack his opponent while they attempt to outrun the wave. This technique has the added effect of changing the landscape. It is usually followed by an area crushing technique to kill the trapped opponent.

Post by Ryuko Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:02 pm

As she had been gesturing for the twins to bring it on the priestess was already preparing for battle, flowing chakra to her batons making them crackle with electricty.  Before any blow she landed with them would have been devastating but now the victim would have to compensate for a stunning effect as well.

Ryuko had been watching the twins every move like a hawk, studying them. If they twins thought that she was simply just going to stand their and let them generate a large amount of sand to attack her with they where sadly mistaken.  As Yua began to make a move she began one of her own taking a quick deep breath and stilling her mind as she attempted to activate one of her favourite combinations.

Accel max would allow her to use medical chakra to increase the airflow to her lungs boosting her speed while Calm mind would allow her to access her brains full processing power to allow her to keep up.  There was just one problem,  she had activated them together countless times in the past but now it simply wasn’t working and neither of them would activate when trying to use both at the same time.

Now wasn’t the time to panic or to try and figure out what was wrong. She wasn’t sure why she was having issues, but it was better to discover it now during a sparring match then out in the field. Switching gears and tactics on the fly had already cost her a precious second allowing the twins the time they needed to get some sand out and she wasn’t about to give them more by overthinking things.

Ryuko was mildly surprised by the sheer volume they generated so quickly. She’d know a bit about the magnet release but this was beyond her expectations.  She had to wonder what the twins even needed the coffin for if they could call up this much sand on the spot whenever they needed it.

They hadn’t been standing that far apart to begin with but even so Ryuko was unperturbed by the oncoming tidal wave.  It was by her books a pretty good attack at least against most people, it just wasn’t good enough to stop her.   Shifting her body into the stance for the arhat fist she threw a single punch with a devastating amount of strength packed inside it.

She’d heard people from Konohagakure could use the 8th gate to generate a shockwave of massive proportions with a single punch.  The fist of air pressure generated by her signature move Thor’s hammer that she’d just done was nowhere near as impressive and much more like a little sister to the Daytime tiger.  But in this case that would still be more then enough.

Though only five meters in diameter it contained enough force to blast trough a large building with ease.  Similarly it would blow a hole straight thought the tidal wave even if it was only a small one that wouldn’t last very long.   Switching to Balled of the dragoon stance she had come here today to practice Ryuko tried once more to activate her clam mind and grinned savagely as this time she found success.

It was time to see just how good of a shield the twins had managed to put up.  It was far from omnidirectional and the priestess was eager to test it’s limits and she for herself just how well it could keep up with her.

Preforming the blitz parade maneuver she dashed thought the hole she had opened up in the tidal wave at mind blogging speeds before it had a chance to close.  She was moving so fast now it was doubtful the twins could see her even as a streak.  For now there was no fanciness or trickery involved, Ryuko simply came at them from straight on.

She was aiming straight for the Yua’s diafame hoping to strike him right in the chest and knock the wind out of him only for a loud clanging sound to ring thought the air as her batons met with a wall of sand that was much more solid then she would have initially expected.  Enough so that her base strength level which was solid enough to crush a small bolder was barely leaving a dent.

Even with her Hakkin’s wrath batons currently being amped up to s-level hardness by the chakra flow it still wouldn’t be enough to break though, but if that was the case she simply had to try harder.  Not pausing for a second she circled around the twins in the blink of an eye and took a swing at the back of Yui’s defenceless head.

With her currently hyper aware perception she would easily be able to tell if the shield of sand was keeping up with her and if that was the case she would turn off Calm mind in order to unleash her Chakra Enhanced Strength Version Two and strike with the full unmitigated force she could muster in order to crack though the defence before dialing it down to normal strength as she attempted to give the girl a good solid wack and hopefully knock her straight out.

If the sand couldn’t keep up she would refrain from using chakra enhanced strength in the first place not wanting to risk dealing a blow that would leave one of the twins as nothing more then a stain on the ground if it connected.

Boosts Strength by +1 tier with Taijutsu or by a +1 advantage without Taijutsu.

Weaknesses: Without Taijutsu the user's Speed is also lowered by -2 advantages.

Weaknesses:   Due to the large amount of focus this technique takes, when the user is hit by anything (ex. weapon, punch, etc. However, not random leaves or rain), the technique is forcefully stopped.  Blocking a direct blow will count as a hit that disrupts this technique.

    Classification: Open
    Requirements: B-Rank Speed
    Parent Technique: N/A
    Hand Seals: N/A
Description: The user focuses their chakra on increasing their speed for a single combo, adding 1 tier++ to Speed for this technique. This combo begins with a strike to the front of the enemies torso, hitting directly in the diaphragm. After this, the user quickly moves around the target, striking from a different spot around them. This can be from the side, back, or even from above if the user is fast enough. If multiple opponents are close together, than the user can choose to switch between opponents rather than striking the same opponents multiple times. The maximum range for this target switching is 1 meter for B Rank speed, 3 meters for A-Rank, and 5 meters for S-Rank and above.

Weaknesses: The technique is draining if used continuously, and can't be used over a great distance. Because of this, if the target is able to get away in the first post, then the jutsu cannot usually be used effectively. It also doesn't increase strength like many other taijutsu, meaning that if the user is weak, than the strikes will still not be very damaging.
    Chakra Enhanced Strength Version Two:

    Element: N/A
    Skill: Iijutsu
    Classification: N/A
    Requirements: B Intelligence & B Coordination
    Parent Technique: Chakra Enhanced Strength
    Hand Seals: N/A
Description: A further refined version of it's parent technique, Version Two of Chakra Enhanced Strength focuses on the same basis; concentrating chakra to a focal point and releasing it at the right timing. This "new and improved" version of the technique, so to speak, allows the user to draw out more chakra, and with the necessary timing and control over that chakra, boost their strength to even more tremendous levels than before.

Unlike it's parent technique, this can even be used as an application for increased lifting strength. With this technique in play and the proper sustenance, a user of the technique can carry far beyond what they'd even imagine with their own strength, unless they're physically apt on their own. This version also opens up inspiration for other techniques that involve the technique's use, such as the Heaven Spear Kick and the Heavenly Foot of Pain.

Version Two gives a two tier boost to Strength while being utilized.
Weaknesses: Like the parent technique, Version Two requires necessary concentration and timing, as well as good control over one's chakra. Should the user lack either adequate means, especially if they're suffering from some type of debiliating drawback, this technique may be much harder to pull off, if not impossible.

An artist's creativity was not limited to the windows of their own home or the public parks. Many embraced the dangers of nature to capture the natural beauty of chaos. Natsuru was no different and sought to utilize her privilege within Kumogakure to gain access to areas otherwise  inaccessible to civilians. The training grounds were restricted to ninja due to its high risk nature. A lot of civilians aren't used to the fast paced environment that happens in a training field. The likely hood of regular people getting pegged by a stray knife was too common before the training fields became restricted to ninja only. Although Natsuru was not reinstated in Kumogakure's military officially, she had a feeling she could get by without any trouble.

Natsuru wears black sandals which cover both feet securely and tightly providing comfort and protection. This is matched with a pair of dark gray steel shin guards. The shin guards covered the tops of her feet all the way up to her lower knees. This was matched with a pair of black stockings which covered her feet and extended above her knees. Although made from cloth they were somewhat thick and provided minor protection. Natsuru wears black undergarments which are concealed by a long, black loincloth which extends just to the sides of her knees on the front and back still providing suitable coverage. Around her right thigh she wears a simple, small black leather belt. Attached on the belt is a dark gray lacquered scabbard sized for a tanto. Another black belt is worn around her waist which serves to hold her quiver located around her back side. This belt is accompanied with a hip pouch above her rear and a katana on her left side, the scabbard design mimicking that of the tanto.

A mesh, sleeveless undershirt covered her body as a set of riveted mail is worn over the undershirt. As her primary top she wears a simple black leotard fitted to her body type. Naturally, her mail shirt beneath her top extends slightly down her upper arm adding some additional protection. On both hands Natsuru wears a pair of long fingerless gloves which extends just below her elbows made with the same material of cloth and quality as her stockings. These are backed by a pair of soft leather arm guards protecting her forearm and back hand leaving a small soft part on her wrist still allowing flexibility. Her bow is worn across her chest with the front of the bow between her bosom and the string running across her back, the natural properties of the bow clinging itself to her body. Over her torso is a black cloak that extended down to the backs of her knees with a down hood, the mantel thick and well-insulated.

Natsuru has very fair skin with an almost ink-like navy blue hair, which matches her eyes in the same regards. Her hair runs down her back inside of the cloak's cover down to her rear end with a few bunches of hair touching down her breasts. Standing at 5'11 she has a very slender frame which maximizes her role as an archer giving her a statuesque vibe. Alas, a highly decorated Indian-style necklace made of silver and ruby was worn around her neck resting atop her chest serving as a relish for the stunning Kunoichi.

    So where was she?

The kunoichi stood on the rocky face of the mountain leading up to the third and highest zone of the training field. She was a good six-hundred meters from the fight she was unaware of. The rocky pathway had a small cliff-side straying from the path which was absolutely perfect for an overview of the metropolis. She stood before an easel with a palette in one hand and brush in the other. An array of oil-based paints were on mixed and matched to capture the complex colors and texture of Kumogakure's overview. The beautiful woods below to the suburbs, business district, and central business district back by another mountain range. It was almost the perfect city. It had everything.

In the midst of her painting there was a powerful tremor that rocked the very earth she stood on. And in a second, her painting was ruined. A marginal error and something that could be worked with, but an error nonetheless. Her brush pattern was moved slightly off center screwing with the mountain range design she had. An hour and a half of work totally ruined. Her heart raced with her breathing elevating to the frustration. Everything seemed like a waste of time. Her brows furrowed as she focused in the training field. What madman would do such a thing? A few skims on the training field and she would find her culprit. A small girl with black hair and pale skin. She was standing before quite a large amount of sand which gave Natsuru the presumption that it was the wake of this which caused the tremor.

Whoever the girl was fighting would soon receive a wealth of help. Pulling the bow off of her body she reached for a single arrow and notched it rightly. With a deep breath she focused on her target, reeling back her arm as the oak creaked into full draw. With a single exhale she unleashed the arrow aimed at the upper right portion of her back. It'd serve as a mere flesh wound to Yui and not be any more debilitating than pain and slowness in combat. The arrow would pierce cleanly through her tissue and out the other end, almost going through completely if not stopping a few inches from the fletchings. And best of all, who was to blame? A mere training error from another party. It would be chalked up as an accident at best. Putting the bow back on her body she'd begin to scale down the mountainside and into the forest level of the training field in no rush to confront her adversary.

They could see why Shimiko thought so highly of the woman her actions and movements instantly were beyond fast. Of course, they expected as much as she would come rushing straight on toward them Yua prepared the shield but it was clear the strength of her blows would be too much for it. Yui would begin to prepare another jutsu as she could not let this combo continue. She would use a single hand seal and wait for the second she saw Ryuko plant her foot. At that very second, she would begin to loosen the sand all underneath Ryukos footing as it would begin to become softer and begin to attempt to pull her into it, this certainly could work but Yui was growing increasingly worried she could be a lot more problems than they knew. Suddenly out of nowhere, an arrow pierced Yui's back and through her chest sticking out the other side. Ryuko would easily see this arrow as Yui flinched and fell to one knee. Was it the assassins, had they made a move inside Kumo, they had no idea but they quickly surrounded themselves and Ryuko into a sand barrier as it circled all three of them.

"Ryuko for now the spar is over... I was shot by an arrow, I have no idea who it is but in Kiri we had people trying to assassinate us, it could be someone from Kiri playing san ally of Kumo. We need to be careful, I know this isn't how you felt this fight would go, but this is a major issue."

Yui would break off the arrow tip and nod toward Yua to remove the arrow as Yui barely flinched at such actions. It was clear they had suffered so much pain in their past they barely felt anything from this wound, even if they did they would not let anyone get the satisfaction of knowing they injured them. Her wound would begin to bleed as she would sigh, Yua would begin to use his medical skills as a green light would begin to glow.

"I am sorry we dragged you into our issues, we do not know why they want us dead but we have a clue they maybe after our little friend inside of us."

Post by Ryuko Mon Apr 20, 2020 8:31 pm

Ryuko actually smirked as she felt the ground shift under her foot the second she put it down on the ground.   Taking away a foes footing was a good tactic to try and slow down an opponent that was faster than you.  It likely would have worked too if they were up against someone a little less seasoned.

As a priestess of Hakkin Ryuko practically lived and breathed for battle, it was going to take more than a little trick like this to trip her up.  Before her foot began to sink she simply released a quick burst of chakra from it generating a platform beneath it.  Technically this was a technique meant to be used to perform double jumps in the air but footing was footing and even if it only lasted for a split second that was more than enough.

Before she could circle around the Twins like she had planned the situation changed as their ferocious sparring match was interrupted by the appearance of a swift moving arrow.  Spotting it coming in due to her enhanced perception Ryuko back calculated it’s trajectory in her head towards the source.

She was just in time to see a dark silhouette vanish down the cliff side in the distance.  The sight was just enough to make her pause for a split second. She could almost swear she recognized the perpetrator but that couldn’t be right since they were far enough she shouldn’t have been able to make out too much detail.

Concluding that either her mind had to be playing tricks on her, or that the twins had managed to slip a genjutsu past her guard she bit her lips annoyed at herself for overthinking things again instead of taking decisive action.  Because she had hesitated, she'd lost any chance she had of being able to block the projectile in time and Yui had taken a very nasty blow.

Clenching the handles of her batons so hard that her nails would have drawn blood if not for her gloves, Ryuko prepared to spring after the culprit determined to not let them get away only to find her route blocked by a wall of sand that had sprung up out of nowhere.

Frustrated at the delay the priestess almost felt like stamping her feet like a two year old but forced herself to maintain composure.   Yui told her the sparring match was over but that much was obvious the second someone had felt the need to intervene.

Ryuko for her part was livid that this had happened.  The twins were like a bundle of precious cinnamon puns that needed to be protected.    Sparring with them like she had been was one thing,  but she couldn’t stand for them to be deliberately targeted like this.

To make things worse her first match in a long time had been interrupted.  Ryuko had been enjoying herself. It was rare she got the chance to go up against someone who could actually give her trouble if she got sloopy without a shred of pretence of malic being involved.     There had been a puzzle for her to solve, how to get around the shield of sand and her opportunity to test the various theories she had in mind had been ripped away from her.

“How dare they get in the way of the sacred clash  between two warriros!” Ryuko muttered under her breath as she quickly checked on the wound. Nodding to herself happy to see that Yua was doing a more than sufficient job of healing it without her intervention.  Disengaging her chakra flow to the batons she stowed them away with a heavy sigh.   She was a fighter not a tracker, without the sensing ability she didn’t have much chance of actually catching up with the culprit now that they had this big of a lead on her.

“Do you know why anyone would be targeting you specifically?”
asked Ryuko before the twins pointed out it might be because of their little friend.  That thought made her narrow her eyes and she frowned heavily.

“Shouldn’t that be a national secret? Who even knows that information to target you for that in the first place?” she asked, feeling more than a little concerned. Did they have a mole in their ranks or was this simply an unlucky coincidence?

Natsuru practically made a beeline to the twins through the woods, her undisputed tracking being able to sight them through the foliage. The brief moment it took the twins to remove the arrow, apply medical ninjutsu, and cocoon up Natsuru was only a few dozen meters away. She witnessed this ability in use but thought nothing of it. Sand was just sand, though from her perspective it was very well packed similar to sand stone. She needed to bring out her big guns.  With Ryuko and the Twins concealed in the protective dome she was unaware of Ryuko's presence entirely, only knowing Yui and Yua being involved. Natsuru didn't think too much of their identical appearance. She was the least bit fascinated at the moment. She'd stop just a few meters outside of the dome observing its structure. Spheres were great as dispersing kinetic energy. She knew this much. This meant she needed to not hold back.

"So this is what you do whenever you have to deal with your first sign of danger? Get out here! Now!" She demanded firmly before clenching her right hand into a balled fist. She was beginning to lose her cool and with her frustrations flowing into her arm, she was cocked and loaded. Taking a few large strides to the dome Natsuru reeled back her arm and slugged an overdraw punch into the face of the sand dome. The impact of her fist against the dome would break the skin on her knuckles and tear her gloves in the same area letting blood stain the area of impact and start to drip from her hand. It was a bit of a self sacrificing move on her end, but the result was as desired. Cracks surged across the sand dome in an instant before she followed up with a knee impacting the same place and causing the dome to burst outwards. The twins would lose control of the sand fragments and they'd be throw several meters away at breakneck speeds.

Natsuru held her fist tightly, though trembling and numbed by the pain. The small haze caused by the sand would clear as Natsuru walked through the smokescreen and into the open air, the adversaries being exposed as well. The agitated appearance of the kunoichi would petrify in shock when her eyes locked on the third wheel. Natsuru's hand slowly relaxed as it opened up. It didn't take her long to remember her face. The girl she once believed was a goner due to the plague stood as strong as ever before her. "Ryuko?" She said, unable to say much more. She had completely forgotten about the twins, as there was nothing more upbringing than to see her friend back on her feet again.

Ryuko was clearly disturbed by the blatant attack on the twins, as for how the secret was out they were in the exams and had used version two so the entire world now knew what they were. Still, how could they get into Kiri to attack them, they had a lot to answer to Ryuko and as they prepared to answer her question suddenly someone began to attack the shield. This person had enormous strength as it began to crumble from the blows, this was not good whoever this was did not play around. As it shattered the twins were blown back interrupting the healing as Yui stared at the woman, she knew exactly who this was it was Natsuru. Why the hell did the whore that ran off with some man in Kiri back in this land and why was she attacking the twins.

"Natsuru why the fuck did you attack us with an arrow, why are you attacking us period I was in the middle of training you stupid cow. This is uncalled for as I am learning my new powers and let me tell you a certain someone is very pissed you shot us with an arrow, it's taking all my willpower to not let him do as he pleases."

The twins would rise to their feet as Yui sighed, it would not be long before her wound would reopen due to being interrupted. This stupid slut cow attacked her without any reason what so ever. Shimiko needed to deal with this stupid bitch, in fact the twins never liked her she was always a bitch to them.

"Ryuko, talk some sense into her please, you know who may wake up if she continues her assault on us and I would rather that not happen in the village."

Ryuko could hear someone demanding that they get out from the dome followed by a loud boom as the dome was hit with tremendous force.  Considering that  the arrow that had struck Yui had been shot from a fair distance and someone seemed to be following up the priestess couldn’t help but wonder if they were up against multiple assailants rather than just one.   Little did she know how wrong her assumption was.

As the sand was literally blown away she found herself face to face with perhaps the person she would have least expected to see.  It was so shocking that it disrupted Ryuko’s meditative trance, her jaw wide open in surprise that she didn’t even stop to think of such questions as what was Natsuru doing back in Kumo when she'd run off or why was she attacking the twins.

A look of pure joy came over the priestess face as she flung her arms open and dived straight at her raven head friend in an attempt to glomp her.  She was lunging with enough speed and  force that if her hug connected she’d likely accidentally knock both of them to the ground in the process if  the other girl wasn’t ready for it.  Well it wasn’t anything that Natsuru shouldn’t have been used to at this point as she’d been the frequent target of  such hugs from Ryuko in the past.

This in a way could serve as an authentication of their identities.   It was unlikely that an imposter would know Ryuko had a tendency to act this way as the priestess only did so in intimate company and not around strangers.  If this Natsuru was a fake they’d be completely blindsided,

“Natsuru! Ich bin so froh, dich zu sehen!” Ryuko rattled off how happy she was to see her sister in german.   Another tendency she had was slipping back to her native language when she was very excited. Given how rare the tongue was in the region it was a good way for her to show Nat-chan that she was still herself even after all this time slept away.

“Nat-chan you’re hand’s bleeding! This is why I hit the sand with my baton”
Chastising her friend slightly she quickly formed two seals then took the damaged hand with her own which had begun to glow with a pale green light that would cause the cracked skin of Natsuru’s knuckles to begin mending itself back together.

“I’m surprised, it’s not like you to misfire and shoot into another training ground.”   with those words she was trying to imply that the entire incident was merely an accident which could happen from time to time on the training grounds.  There was a reason they were restricted after all.   She didn’t want to think about the possibility that it might have been deliberate.

Out of all the Thundercats it was highly likely that Natsuru was the most stuck up.  Ryuko had gotten snippy at Sora for his sheer slothiness but was otherwise fairly genial to the average law abiding citizen.   Natsuru on the other hand tended to fire a lot of verbal pot shots at people but it was pretty rare to see her take such a literal one like this.

She felt a chill run up her spin at the implication from the twins about the Ichibi waking up and going berserk. If that happened the entire village would be in danger.  She wasn’t sure two thirds of her squad would be enough to stop it, not without endangering the Twins themselves at any rate.  Even if they could, the property damage would be enormous and given the village’s financial state it wasn’t one they could afford either.

“Nat-chan tis would be best if you apologized... '' she suggested before leaning in leaning in so that her lips were close to the other girl's ear.   “The twins are host to a bijuu.  We got lucky in the valley dealing with Nozomi that one time.  Let’s not press our luck here.”  she advised.   It was never wise to piss off a jinchūriki.

Normally she'd chastise the twins for swearing and insulting someone who was basically a family member but in this case their actions where fully understandable. Anyone would be pretty pissed off after being shot by an arrow.

As the sand dust began to clear her vision was clearer now. What she saw was both Ryuko and an odd couple. The two girls were identical in appearance. Natsuru was unfamiliar with them, but they both knew her name very well. It was surprising knowing that Natsuru had never met them before. But reputation does carry she figured. Immediately one of them started to rant.

"Natsuru why the fuck did yo-"

    --

"Shut up." Natsuru said affirmatively with enough authority in the her voice to drown out Yui's. She passed a cold glare at Yui and Yua with furrowed brows. "You do realize that..." But before Natsuru could finish what she had in mind her gaze adjusted onto Ryuko, her long time friend. Hearing her charming voice and accent again caused her nerves to settle and all was well. What Natsuru wasn't prepared for were Ryuko's infamous glomps. Something she previous avoided to the best of her ability, but now accepted with shaky open arms. The sheer volume the little girl had was backed by speed and power which toppled her over. "Cease." She muttered, struggling to not be scraped into the dirt too much by Ryuko's embrace.

The mentioning of her hand was what brought some of the pain back. It was minor, though the damage was something she couldn't exactly ignore. Repetitive hits against that sand dome would cause some significant damage. She turned her head to the twin girls. They can make something like that? Impressive. While still pancaked on the ground she had the benefit of Ryuko's medical Ninjutsu being used on her hand, though in an awkward position with her on top. Natsuru tried not to think too much about it, but there was an unsettling discomfort being in such a vulnurable position while she practically aggravated the other two. Her hot temper had its issues.

She'd stay there until the healing was done and would sit upright to get off her back. Grabbing Ryuko by her sides she'd lift her with no effort and set her to the side almost like an object so they were both sitting side by side. Natsuru clenched her hand and opened it for a brief series of tests. The damage was healed and there was nothing to tell for it aside from blood stained and torn gloves. "Thank you." Natsuru said earnestly before shifting her gaze at the twin girls. Particularly the one she shot. Her wound was healed partially, and as desired, the wound was in a non-lethal area. "That wasn't a misfire. If I wanted her dead or incapacitated, she would be. She needed to learn the important lesson of restraint. Her technique disturbed my training six-hundred and thirty-two meters away. Just on that cliff-side." Natsuru said gesturing past the canopy with a single finger into the mountainside she once stood. "Ground Two is restricted to moderate Ninjutsu usage and Chuunin skilled ninja. This is for the safety of the Genin training in Ground One, which neighbors Ground Two directly. Not only that, but the ground is soft here which has poor shock absorption. That energy travels into the foundation of the mountain which supports Ground Three, where I was training."

Natsuru pushed herself up on both feet so she was standing tall once again, but now directing her attention towards Yui and Yua speaking to them specifically. "I noticed a two inch error during my training when I felt your shockwave. From my previous location, two inches could've been an arrow through your heart over its trajectory." But of course, Natsuru doesn't make mistakes. Not that easily. Other people might, but Natsuru was not other people. The lesson here was to exercise in the appropriate training ground. At least that's what Natsuru cleverly fabricated. A spiteshot taken out on Yui because they interrupted Natsuru's "training" had at least some credibility. What Ryuko had to tell Natsuru was a bit alarming, though. These two girls shared a Bijuu? That was her luck. Natsuru had firsthand experience with a Jinchu and it was not something she wanted to experience again. Especially after her loss of confidence during her retreat to the homeland.

She sighed as Ryuko's lips finished spilling the good secrets into her ear. Apologies were hard to come by. Natsuru couldn't even remember if she actually apologized to Shimiko or Ryuko during the party, and she considered them her best friends. If she were to apologize to these girls they would be the first to have the honor.

"But...I guess I owe you a privilege. You are so young I can only assume this was your first time getting stabbed. I offer you the same courtesy. You have the honor to wield Nightpain and shoot me with one arrow." Natsuru strung the bow off her body and pulled a single iron broadhead from her quiver before approaching the two girls and  handing them to her cordially with a grin. Natsuru's arrogance led her to believe they were incapable of even drawing the bow, let alone get an accurate shot off. It took proper form and technique to wield a bow efficiently. With a shallow leap back she cleared ten meters between her and the twins. Reaching into her hip pouch she'd throw a kunai at either side of her, only a foot out from her shoulder width. They served as cones for an 'out of bounds' zone. "I won't even step outside of these knives. No blocking, no moving away, no jumping. You have a clean freebie. Enjoy it while it lasts." Natsuru focused her eyes on the twin girl's next move. "You might want to get behind the two girls, Ryuko." And despite Natsuru's focus, her body was in a rather neutral rest position with a single hand on her hip.

The twins were pissed of course pissed they knew there was no way that was an accidental shot, the aim even aimed to miss any vital organs. As Natsuru was treated by Ryuko she even admitted she shot them on purpose for using the wrong training grounds. The eyes of both of them would glow red as they stared at her, Yua would begin to finish treating Yui injury as his hands would glow blue. It would only take a few moments as the pair continued to listen and glare a the woman before taking a breath and their eyes going back to normal.

She then handed the pair a bow and arrows, putting down two Kunai as to where she would be and saying she wouldn't move. When Yui went to pull the string she could feel it was hard to pull, cute so she had faith they couldn't draw the bow. She was wrong however as suddenly Yui began to pulse with chakra. Ryuko would recognize this right away the pair was using chakra enhanced strength. Yui would grab the bow and place it in her hands, drawing back the string, she was not exactly sure how to use a bow. However, that didn't mean she couldn't pull the string and fire it. She would focus for a moment as she pulled back the string and began to take aim while her aim would not be perfect it was clear she may actually be able to hit her she would let the arrow fly with her enhanced strength she was able to fire it without issue. The arrow would sail past Natsuru but it was very close to striking her, while Yui looked annoyed she would walk over and hand the bow to her.

"I am not used to this style of weapon, I use a Scythe not a bow, however, it took more strength then I thought. I ask you not to shot me with an arrow again, and no I have been stabbed, burned and many other things more than you could know."

Yui would have Yui open the back of her dress exposing her scarred skin, it had clear cuts, burns, and many whip marks before she had Yua redo the back of her dress up again. She barely felt the arrow it was just mostly an inconvenience more than an injury to slow her down.

"Also we are genin so this is the training ground we are supposed to be using, the higher ground is for Jounin which we are not. We do not have permission to train up there unless you can convince Nariko to let us use that ground away from this area."

The priestess quickly found herself pressing her friend into the ground. To compound the matter her face was  squeezed tight against Nat-chan’s generous bosom making her face blush fiercely.   She’d thought with all the strength Natsuru had displayed breaking down the sand barrier that her friend would have no trouble catching her but it seemed in her over enthusiasm she’d underestimated just how much force she’d be generating from moving that fast.

Ryuko hadn’t been expecting to see Natsuru again, at least not any time soon anyway.  The twins hadn’t been able to give her any leads to her location and she hadn’t had a chance to ask Shimiko yet.  She’d been planning to throw a party to surprise the Chinoike with news of her recovery.    With Natsuru back they’d be able to have an ever better double surprise.

The priestess blinked heavily in surprise as Natsuru lifted her up with ease and set her aside. It wasn’t like she had all that much weight to her to start with but still considering she had her gear on it was an impressive feat.

Cringing by her friend to say about shooting on purpose and why Ryuko felt deeply guilty about the entire situation since the source of it all laid at her own feet.   If she’d actually been thinking for a second instead of getting worked up by the bet the twins had made none of this would have happened.

“Nat-chan tis my fault that this occurred not the twins.   I only just woke up from my coma literally yesterday so I didn’t want to jump to the third level right off the bat.  When the Twins challenged me to a sparring match I foolishly underestimated their capabilities.   Had I known they were capable of generating so much sand so quickly I would have issued them a pass to the highest level in Nariko’s place.”

The priestess hastily explained overlooking the fact that medically speaking she should have had no right to be moving around like she was.  By all rights she should have still been in the hospital rehabilitating but little was she aware of the fact that she’d already taken leave of her humanity long ago and hadn’t fallen victim to the plague in the first place.   No the entire time she’d been asleep wasn’t because of some disease but because her body was in the process of adjusting to housing a second soul alongside her own.

A soul that just now was itself awakening as Natsuru offered to let the twins shoot her with her own bow in lue of an apology,  the idea of which had the priestess fraught with great concern.   She was well aware of just how dangerous an arrow shot could be, especially at such a close range.    Not to mention she knew first hand just how much it hurt being hit by one. Even with chainmail on it could still sting like a bitch if it pierced though.

Sure her friend seemed to be wearing hers but if it was the one Ryuko had made and given to her years ago before they had even become chunnin then it was sorely out of date and might not hold up considering the obvious quality of the bow involved.

The fact the twins were amatures when it came to archery actually in a way made them more dangerous and unpredictable.  Natsuru was likely betting they wouldn’t even be able to draw the string back properly enough to fire but the priestess knew they had medical training like her which meant a high degree of probability that they also knew chakra enhanced strength.   The fact they couldn’t aim properly was a bigger concern since they might hit something that could do some real damage accidently without even meaning to.

“Tis seems like a very poor idea.  If Yui hits you Nat-chan you could end up in the hospital or worse.”   exclaimed Ryuko as she began to panic slightly knowing that her friend was far too prideful to just back down so easily after issuing such a back handed challenge.  They hadn’t seen each other in a long time and she wasn’t sure what to say to her sister to get her to listen.

“Hush now child. I will ensure your friends safety.” spoke a voice that wasn’t Ryuko’s own from her mouth.   The german accident had vanished and she was now speaking flawless Japanese as she laid a hand on Natsuru’s shoulder her hair flashed from her usual black with a streak of blue at the front to entirely bright blond for an a brief moment and then her friend was enveloped by a brillant golden aura  that would feel extremely warm and comforting.

“What in Hakkin’s name just happened?” The priestess asked out loud not having a clue what had just gone on. Someone else had just been speaking using her lips and moved her arm and she’d just used an ability she’d never seen before in her life.  Something very strange was afoot. Had she just unlocked some weird bloodline ability that her clan wasn’t aware it possessed?

Her fears were quickly proven warranted as Yui managed to fire the bow after all, Missing on purpose just to prove her point, though if she had tried to shoot Natsuru anyway it would have probably just bounced off the golden aura that  was currently enveloping her.

To Natsuru's surprise the girls did manage to string the bow. This would be incredibly bad depending on a number of things, most notably her proficiency with weaponry in general. If the girl had enough coordination she could fire the arrow without much drawback and land a direct him. And if Yui really hated Natsuru with enough coordination, they could get away with a fairly painful shot. Fortunately, the twin's aim was as good as their reflexes. Their ability to string the bow was just a feat of pure strength, but their accuracy faltered after that. Upon releasing the arrow Natsuru noticed the trajectory proved no harm to her. But it was during these antics Natsuru heard an unfamiliar voice. Turning to face Ryuko she caught the glimpse of a complete makeover as she placed her had on her shoulder. Bright lights illuminated her as a bright shroud protected her even more. Natsuru was truly unfamiliar with Ryuko's potential true potential. If she was capable of mustering that defense and she just woke up from her coma the other day, she was likely capable of this before she fell ill. Though as much as she wanted to relish in Ryuko she noticed the twins approaching her after their failure. A small smirk stretched across her face as she shrugged with a careless expression. "What a shame. Although you did not hit me, you did have the honor of wielding my bow. That's a privilege not everybody gets."

Yui went on to briefly explain they were fairly combat hardened, and had the scars to prove it. The mere sight of the grotesque injuries caused Natsuru's face to cringe in disgust. "Your words were sufficient. You're lucky there are no guys around." Natsuru said as a final tidbit suggesting she found Yui's actions unladylike. And Natsuru was of course all about class etiquette. Taking the bow back from Yui she strung it across her body, wedging the bow string between her bosom as usual.

"Anyways...it's foolish to believe you're a Genin still. Your physical strength alone speaks otherwise. Nobody is going to give you shit for using the advanced training grounds." Natsuru followed with a couple nods reaffirming herself. Surely if she can't get in trouble, the twins can't. Turning her head back she gazed at Ryuko. It was hard for her to internalize she was back. She was so happy she had trouble really expressing it. To see her, on two feet again with both eyes open. Natsuru was convinced she was going to die on her hospital bed...something Natsuru was unwilling to face. Shimiko had become distant at the time and Natsuru was fresh out of friends. She felt little reason to remain in Kishin, and when her parents mentioned they were moving back to the mainland she couldn't resist.

But there was something missing in her life. Her primary goal in becoming a ninja in the first place. She was born into wealth, and with the money at her disposal she could afford everything she wanted. And that was her downfall. "Have you seen Shimiko yet? Probably not, since you just woke up apparently. Oh! We should find her, actually. We need to have dinner and catch up!"

Ryuko was too busy looking at her hands, the gears in her head turning as she tried to figure out what she had just done and how to pay too much attention to what friend was saying to the twins at first. If she had been she likely would have rolled her eyes at some of the comments being made. This from a woman who had one partly stripped in public before to put on a set of chainmail that the priestess had given her.

The mention of rank snapped her mind back into place. Now that Natsuru had mentioned what was her rank now on paper at least since she’d left the village at least for a time. Not that it really mattered much if Ryuko’s eyes, it wasn’t like her sister was a missing ninja. It was more like a leave of absence before returning to duty in her book and considering she was the one doing all the paperwork right now it’d be trivial to make that the case officially.

It wasn’t like she had much room to complain when she’d been lying in bed for the last couple years and been allowed to retain her rank and position. When she’d walked back into the administrative office after waking up hardly anyone had even batted an eye. Living in a village full of ninja they’d likely seen some weird stuff over the years so someone making a miraculous recovery was hardly worth raising an eyebrow over.

“Not yet, I heard she was out on a mission! Since your back and I've recovered, how about we throw a surprise reunion party? Admission will be free” said Ryuko with a wide grin as she cracked a little joke at the end to lighten the mood. It would be the first time the three sisters bound at the soul had seen each other in years and she wanted to make it special!

Post by Shimiko Chinoike Sat May 16, 2020 9:38 pm

In the distance, a colony of bats burst from the caves embedded into the Ground Three Training Mountain. Ryuko, Yui, Yua, and Natsuru would all likely notice a sea of black rising into the air and rotating around the mountain like a cosmic ring. The ring completed a few rotations before rising further into the clouds and dipping back down. The creatures screeched and hissed as they flew over the entirety of the Ground Two Training Area, fanning out and covering the wide range. The anomalous behavior wouldn't last long though. Not long after a few bats had flown into the area where the quartet resided would the entire colony be drawn back to their homes. The bats moved erratically, as if they were being propelled by an invisible force. The creatures circulated and coagulated back into the airspace before making a beeline to their caves.

    Found them!

Shimiko's eyes flickered back to their normal blue color as she deactivated her Hachidora Ketsurygan. With one hand she wiped away a single bloody tear as she continued speeding towards their location. She was running Naruto-style, with her hands and arms trailing behind her and her body lurched forwards. Her center of gravity low and her eyes fixed forward with determination. Shimiko could feel the emotions well up in her chest as she closed in on their location. Natsuru had left the continent for China without even saying goodbye. When Shimiko had read the note that she had left, it had torn her up inside. It had made her wonder what she could have done better. They had drifted apart over the years and while the Chinoike had always come up with excuses for why she was too busy to spend time with her friend, none of them could numb the pain she felt knowing Natsuru was gone. The fact that the Senou had left her the Tower was proof that her departure was final and permanent. There was no goodbyes, no negotiation, no tearful pleading. She was angry but she also understood. Natsuru had needed her friends and Shimiko wasn't there for her. But now she had returned. She knew Mora would not lie to her about something so serious. If Natsuru was back then maybe she was in trouble or needed help. It wasn't like her to change her mind so easily. Whatever the reason, Shimiko resolved to hug her and never let go. She'd never take her friend for granted ever again.

Then there was Ryuko. The Priestess hadn't left on bad terms per se, but the circumstances of her departure were even more disturbing. Natsuru had wanted to leave. As painful as that act was, it was an act of volition. Shimiko had come to accept that. Ryuko on the other hand, had fainted before her very eyes. A sudden onset of plague had taken her, and with each passing day she remained in the coma, the likelihood of her waking up lessened. She had seen Seigi go through the same thing and she knew that it was only a matter of time before Ryuko died or someone pulled the plug. She had contemplated doing it herself. It wouldn't be right for her friend to waste away on a hospital bed. She had already gone through that with her older brother. Her dreams were haunted by Seigi's emaciated form and the pity in the caretakers' eyes as everyday he grew weaker. She could never bring herself to do it though. No matter how much she told herself it'd be an act of mercy, some part of her held out hope that the girl would wake up. The Thundercats didn't give up on her when she was in a plague coma and so she decided that she had no right to shut that door on Ryuko either. Words couldn't express how thankful Shimiko was that Jashin stayed her hand from euthanizing her friend. Ryuko had fought off the sickness. It had taken more time than any doctor thought possible, but she had done it. Now, they were all here together again

    Praise be to Jashin!

Shimiko rushed onto the scene in a blur, skidding to a halt near both Ryuko and Natsuru. Her arrival would be perceived as little more than teleportation to most people, but for women as astute as her comrades, they'd probably see her coming a mile away. When she stopped  in front of them, she noticed that they were within hugging distance but Shimiko was too overwhelmed to move. If she had been paying attention to their words, she would have heard something about a surprise party but instead all she could do was stare.

It was them. Ryuko with that beautiful blue streak running through her charcoal hair. The giddy look in her eyes. Shimiko had even caught the twang of her accent as she uttered words that the blonde was still too jubilant to comprehend. Natsuru's expression was as placid as ever and Shimiko wouldn't be surprised if it remained unchanged even with her sudden appearance. The woman was tall, taller than Shimiko, although not by much. She had always been the middle child amongst them but in recent years she had grown to a stature nearly identical to Natsuru's.

"Oh my...god..." she started, mouthing the first two words and then vocally uttering the third. For so long it had been just her. She had been alone. The last Thundercat. But now they were together again. The moment was so cathartic that Shimiko did the only thing she knew how to do when overcome with such raw emotion. She started crying.

Shimiko reached out and hugged Ryuko first. Subconsciously, she knew that Ryuko would be the most receptive to such a display of affection. In the end it wouldn't matter. She was going to hug Natsuru whether the Senou liked it or not. Shimiko squeezed Ryuko tightly and if Ryuko ran to glomp she wouldn't even try to resist. Whether standing or tumbling to the ground, she'd sob against her Nakama as she tried to contain the wealth of feelings that were pouring out of her.

"I didn't know if you were gonna wake up....I believed...I wanted to believe....I didn't want to give up..." she managed in between sobs. She was trying to say that she was sorry for almost losing faith but that Ryuko was so much bigger than that and that as much as Shimiko pulled for her, ultimately it was her own strength and willpower that pulled her out of the coma. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to articulate that so instead so just said: "I'm glad you're back" before breaking the hug and turning to Natsuru. The worst of it was over but the tears were still streaming down her face. She started towards her friend. "I knew you couldn't resist coming back to see me" she joked. Natsuru and her had always been sisters, rivals, and friends in that order. They had fought like hell, both verbally and physically. At their last dinner party, they had almost went on separate paths but in the end true friendship won out.

Shimiko would go to hug Nat-chan and if the bluette attempted to dodge, Shimiko would chase her. She assumed her base reflexes would be sufficient to capture the girl in a loving embrace but if not, Shimiko had no qualms about using jutsu to express physical affection for her older sister. Natsuru was not getting out of this. Even if she had to cut off the woman's arms and legs, she'd hug nugget Nat-chan with all her might. After the hug was complete, Shimiko would step back and start laughing almost hysterically. She had always been very emotional but this was a whole new level. She had been through quite a lot recently. She had seen a lot of miracles, faced down some dire possibilities, and come closer to God than she had in a long while. Normally, she kept a mask of pleasant and cheery composure, but today she broke form openly and without care.

    "I can't believe this.....Jashin be praised....I can't believe you guys are back..."

She was now shaking her head in a daze, slowly coming to her senses as the jubilee wore off. They'd think her mad and by all accounts she was. She had spent the past few weeks cloistered in a mountain subsisting off of snails, under-cooked rice, and human blood. She looked to Yui and Yua, and smiled. This was a first. She'd almost always acknowledge their presence first whenever she entered a room, but today was a very special day. She walked over to them and gave them a hug.

"Hello darlings! I see you've already welcomed my Nakama home." She turned to them both and smiled as she wrapped a loving arm around her children. Presumably Ryuko and Natsuru remembered who the twins were and how important they were to Shimiko. She did notice Yui looked a bit uncomfortable. She also noted the large amount of sand in the area, along with the kunai and arrows strewn about. There had been some sparring taking place here.

"Is everything alright Yui?" she'd ask. She was glad her friends were back but her motherly instincts would not let her neglect Yui and Yua's wellbeing even during a momentous occasion such as this.

The twins watched the two go back and forth in conversation they felt like a third wheel, as they prepared to leave so the two could talk alone Shimiko suddenly showed up. She was talking with the pair before crying and then hugging Yui who still was in pain from the arrow wound to her chest. When she asked what happened she couldn't lie, the twins may be what some call evil but lying really wasn't their thing. They were honest to a fault and being dishonest made them feel dirty.

"Well to put it simply Natsuru shot me in the chest with an arrow, do not worry we already settled the issue it is nothing for you to concern yourself with. She simply misunderstood the situation and thought I was viciously trying to attack someone, she had no clue it was ourselves and Ryuko and she did apologize to us."

They would wait for Shimiko's reaction if she began to try to attack Natsuru they would stop her, while yes they were mad at her they could handle their own business with someone so rude to shoot them with an arrow. They knew she loved them very much and such news may throw her into a fit of rage, they were ready to react if they needed to but they really hoped she would understand they handled this situation already.

The sound of a surprise party warmed Natsuru's heart. She loved parties. Expensive parties. They were an opportunity to really dress up and enjoy some of the best drinks and foods with company. And as someone would suspect, the wealthy Natsuru Senou was not a frugal customer. But before she could reply to Ryuko's suggestion she was the first to notice the shift in atmospheric light as the bats left the cave as a whole. They moved like a thunder cloud, darkening the training grounds in a wave. They were annoying. The flapping and frequent squeaks combined with the pure obscurity of their presence made Natsuru regret coming back and having to deal with that kind of bullshit that just tends to happen in Kishin. She knew somebody was responsible for this. Colonies of bats didn't exist like that naturally, and the way they moved seemed like they were focused on tracking the three of them. Her head remained fixed on the swarm as they receded back into the cave. And from there, a streak of gold bled from the entrance of the cavern.

"Run." Natsuru got a pretty clear picture of the cave inhabitant. Frankly she was surprised Shimiko even bothered to keep tabs on the training grounds or why she was dwelling in the cave to begin with. It must've been a weird Chinoike tradition. They were known to have a primitive diet. At least in her perspective. A beast as filthy as the mountain goat is considered a delicacy to them...and bush meat is a common sustenance. If it weren't for me introducing her to civil tastes she could've had stunted growth for all we know. As much as Natsuru wanted to run, she was frankly unmotivated to. It almost seemed futile given Shimiko's velocity.

She was fast. A lot faster and physically developed since she last saw her. Natsuru on the other hand...somewhat bulked while overall losing mass. Her muscles weren't as tight making her figure looks a bit chunkier and loose, though not fat. Her belly was still normal. She merely lacked the packed figure she once had when she was active. Braking her feet against the soil, Shimiko appeared before the group. At first she was speechless and looked like a fool. Natsuru expected something to come out of her mouth, but what she wasn't expecting was bloody tears. "It was nice seeing you again, Ryuko." Immediately Natsuru turned while leaving Ryuko a victim to Shimiko's embrace. Natsuru wanted a head start and leaving, and if she was lucky, be viewed as a stranger. Pulling her hood over her head and wrapping her cloak around her body she casually paced away from the scene under the impressive Shimiko hadn't noticed her yet.

But all would come crashing down when Shimiko rushed towards Natsuru. It was her turn to deal with the blonde. A tight embrace made Natsuru stop in place. She'd begin to count mentally to help cope with Shimiko's embrace. But despite her resistance, deep down she was pleased to see them all once again. But what she didn't want to hear was that God-forsaken phrase. 'Praise Jashin.' Natsuru was foolish to make an amulet after Jashin, who Natsuru once believed was just some silly idol the teenage girl fantasized. She didn't know it was some cult, and that it would snowball into her personality. But so far she seems healthy. Well-fed, matured, and groomed. So perhaps they weren't too bad.

Shimiko broke from their embrace to console Yui. Shimiko was unaware of their relationship until now, having never met the Twins before nor heard of Shimiko mention them. But something connected the dots between Yui and Shimiko in Natsuru's perspective. It seems like they were meant for each other. To her surprise the Twins did stick their neck out for Natsuru immediately making them more likable than Shimiko. "Well there goes the surprise dinner. How do you all feel about lunch? Is Ayano's place still around?" She asked genuinely curious. Natsuru knew Ryuko was a major stock holder with her company...but with Ryuko's comatose state there was no telling what direction the company went with its funding in a state of purgatory.

Post by Ryuko Mon May 25, 2020 3:00 am

“What in blue blazes” exclaimed Ryuko as she spotted the swarm of bats coming their way.  The sun was still high in the air so to say it made for a very unusual sight would be putting it mildly.   Considering they were in the middle of the training grounds it could simply be the result of someone else training but there was also the possibility that they were now under attack from an outside source.

Could someone have slipped a genjutsu on her?  Unlikely considering the lack of any discernible trigger.  The priestess was considering the pros and cons of launching an area of effect lightning jutsu.  With the sheer numbers it was unlikely she could eliminate all of them in one shot but if she played her cards right she’d whittle them down to a more manageable size.

Thankfully they disbursed before she tried to strike especially as she soon realized the source as she spotted Shimiko coming towards them at high speed which gave her an inner oh duh moment.   Given her friend’s clan she should have put two and two together much sooner.  The Chinoike already had a bit of a vampire type thing going on and everyone knew Vampires and bats went together like peanut butter and jelly.

Natsuru telling her to run just left Ryuko feeling even more confused.  It was just Shimiko coming to see them.  What was there to run from?  A lot of things might have changed over the past couple of years but one thing that the priestess was absolutely sure of was that their friend would never hurt them.

“Shi-Chan!” Exclaimed Ryuko as she made to glomp her friend even before her friend could attempt to hug her. She was a bit more careful this time to moderate the amount of force she put into it.   She’d already knocked Natsuru over once today when she hadn’t meant to and she didn’t want to repeat the same mistake on her other soul-sister.

    ---

“Careful with this one. She reeks of blood and death.” spoke a gental voice in Ryuko’s head that only she could hear.  It was enough to make her blink and wonder if the long time spent asleep had made her go mad.  “Oh I assure you that you’re quite sane.”  replied the voice as if it had been reading the priestess thoughts.

“Alright who are you and what are you doing in my head?” Asked Ryuko belligerently only to find that she wasn’t hugging and being hugged anymore or even in the training grounds but in a field surrounded by blooming flowers in various colours of the rainbow. Standing across from her was the face of someone she knew very well.   A face she’d sceen when reading the scriptures of Hakkin and in the stained glass windows of her church.

“Rafaela?” screeched Ryuko in the loudest voice she’d made so far in the entire day full of exclamations.   The priestess was one of the highest authorities in the Church of Hakkin. There was no way on earth she wouldn’t know the face of the first vestal who was like a saint to her and still claim to be worth her salt.  A priestess who didn’t study her own religions teachings and just used the position for power was nothing but a false idol.

“Ah good I see you are formulary with me.  That should make explaining things quicker.” replied Rafaela as she graced Ryuko with a warm smile only for Ryuko to snake her head indicating there was no need for the other woman to make such a long winded exposition.  Ryuko had read the scriptures enough to know them by heart and already had a good idea of what was happening.

When times were tough their god would pick a champion from his followers to host Rafaela’s soul in their body allowing them to wield the first vestal’s power in the physical world.  She just never expected that she would be picked for such a task. She didn’t think of herself to be worthy of it.

On one hand she was over the moon with gratification to be chosen but on the other the fact such a thing was even necessary in the first place was an ill omen.  Rafaela had considerable might back in the day when she had been alive, what crisis was around the corner that Ryuko would need such power to deal with it?

“My apologies, It took longer for your body to adapt to hosting two souls than anticipated.  You ended up sleeping for much longer then expected.” said Rafaela wistfully.   Now another mystery made sense to Ryuko. She’d been questioning why she hadn’t suffered any ill effects from her coma and the reason why was simple. She hadn’t been affected by the plague at all and instead had been adapting to having another soul place inside of her.

“Tis notihng to be too concerned about. I may have lost a couple years but I likely gained a few in the process.”  replied Ryuko.  Given that the first Vestal had lived to the ripe old age of 120 when most people were lucky to make it past 50 she figured having that power inside her would also translate to having a longer life span.

“For now the portion of my power that you have access to remains low.  To access my full potential you must face Hakkin and prove yourself worthy. When you are ready let me know and I shall summon you to his side”   The explanations over for now the soul scape started to fade away and Ryuko found herself back in the real world with less than a seconds time elapsing in the meantime.

The idea of having to take a test to unlock the rest of the power was almost enough to make her sigh.  She knew of this test and what it entailed but that didn’t make undergoing it any easier. It wasn’t every day one was asked to overcome a god even if it was only a partial aspect of one.  She wanted to ask why even pick her to play host if she still had to prove herself in the end but she understood that Rafaela’s full power was simply too much to simply leave in untried hands.  Even a small portion of it would be enough to overcome a crisis if used wisely.

    ---

“Dang girl you’ve geared up!” Commented Ryuko in excitement as she took a step back and surveyed Shimiko’s outfit.  She felt proud of the fact that her friend was still wearing the blood red cat-suit that Ryuko had personally crafted for her.  It was the finest work she had ever made so far, enough not to be completely outclassed like Ryuko’s current set of B-grade equipment was.

Beyond just the suit Shimiko was wearing a number of high end weapons.  The Melody arms in particular stood out and looked very impressive.   Considering the Baton’s Ryuko had holstered had been made by Shimiko she was hoping her friend would be able to supply her with some top of the line equipment.  She’d need something special to harm a creature who’s scales were like ten-fold shields.

Holding out a hand as Shimiko went to hug Natsuru  the priestess attempted to test out her new power.  After all they were on a training field and she needed first hand experience to know how it worked properly because that part hadn’t been included in the scriptures.   Concentrating hard she willed for a shield to envelope the blond the same way it had their taller bustier friend but nothing happened.

“I’m afraid that was an anomaly caused by the excess build of energy from being asleep for so long. My power usually doesn’t work that way.” said Rafaela in her head apologetically.  “You do have another technique at your disposal now.   It is Known as light of affection and can protect those within a 10 meter radius from physical harm. Beware however as it redirects that damage to you and doesn’t distinguish between friend or foe”

That sounded like it could be useful but tricky. With the way Ryuko’s armor was now there was no way she could deliberately take too many hits for her teammates and survive herself.  Getting better armor was long overdue and that just bumped it up to her highest priority level.

“Regardless you would be wise to reserve drawing upon my power only for when you absolutely need it.  Doing so will erode the barrier between our two souls overwriting yours with mine.  I have no wish to replace you but every power has its price….”  By now Rafaela sounded absolutely mournful.  She hated the fact that her might could be so helpful to her host but so costly at the same time.

“Is there any way around that?” asked Ryuko sounding hopeful.  As much as she wanted to train herself she knew now that this wasn’t something to be used frivolously.  Unlike a bijuu Rafaela wasn’t quite sealed inside her the same way.  It wouldn’t be easy to repair the damage the barrier that kept their two souls separated, if it could even be repaired in the first place.

“If you prove yourself then in time we should be able to learn to act together in harmony.  At that point you would be able to use my full power freely with no ill effect.”  explained Rafaela.   Well then it looked like Ryuko had a plan.   Physically she was already at about the peak of what she would be able to reach on her own.  So now she just had to polish herself up, find the best equipment she could and conquer a god with the help of her friends.  That sounded simple enough.

For the longest time ever since that day in the valley she’d had a complex about her lack of power.   How many times had she lamented not being able to save Nozomi that day?  How could she be expected to save her country when she couldn’t even save one single life with her own hands?

She’d found herself wishing she’d had a bloodline like Shimiko. Something, anything that would allow her to stand up to a sage like Honiko and come up on top.  She’d beaten the battlemaid Masyuo in the Jounin tournament but that had been just as much luck as skill and that fight could have easily gone the other way.

She was supposedly as S-rank Jounin but she’d always felt utterly lacking compared to her pier.  Sure she’d talk a big game and pretend to be full of bravado but inwardly she was terrified of failure.   Afraid that her weakness would drag the rest of her team down and always pushing herself that much harder to push herself further, to go beyond.

Being chosen to host Rafaela wasn’t being handed that incredible power she sought on a golden platter but rather the opportunity to claim it for herself.  She was merely standing at the base of a very tall tower that stretched up high into the sky.  The power she sought, the light of her salvation was at the top.   She merely had to climb it and claim her prize.

“I truly have been blessed.” muttered Ryuko as a tear of happiness ran down one cheek.  It would have been an impossible task, a goal line she could never cross if she had been on her own but she had her wonderful friends by her side to give her the extra push on the back she needed, to grab her hand when she stumbled.

Wiping the tear away she gave her friends a big grin full of more energy and life in it then she’d displayed earlier.  Never mind Rafaela this was the perfect opportunity to see just how she stood after being in status for the last couple of years.  She needed to know for certain she could still keep up otherwise she’d never have the right to ask them to take such a massive risk for her sake.

“Ay as far as I'm aware Ayano’s is still in business.” said Ryuko without a shred of deception.  The monthly royalty checks were still coming in so something must have been going right. “But before we grab lunch, how about working up an appetite first.  My match with the twins was interrupted and I still have energy to spare.  Let's have a Three way Thundercats sparring match with the Twins as the judge?” she asked, throwing down the gauntlet.

She wanted to square off against her friends right here right now.  They were still on the second level of the training grounds which meant none of them could go all out which should keep things to a reasonably friendly level.

Besides, she still owed Shimiko a match from the Jounin tournament.  She couldn’t quite remember why that hadn’t happened other than the fact she’d fallen unconscious before they could have it.  Or rather she was subconsciously suppressing the events of that day because recalling them would have her squirming in embarrassment from the shame of what she’d asked.

The psychological damage of remembering would be nothing to sneeze at as well.  That she’d thrown aside her pride and begged for Shimiko to step aside. Something a warrior should never do, something that a friend and sister should never do. But she had done it anyway all for the sake of love only to throw that all away. She had lost her one best and perhaps last shot of being with Nozomi by falling into a coma.   She had gained tremendous potential by becoming Rafaela’s host but also paid a tremendous price in the process of doing so.

Post by Shimiko Chinoike Tue May 26, 2020 3:04 pm

Shimiko was warmly embraced by Ryuko as she had expected. It was good to be received by the Priestess again. She could hear it in her voice, feel it in her glomp, everything about this moment was real. These were her friends. When she broke the hug, Ryuko complimented her on her gear. Shimiko did a dramatic twirl as if showcasing her armour and various weapons. "You like? It took me a while to get my full arsenal and I'm still improving it, but hey, someone had to hold down the fort while you two were gone!" she said proudly.

While Ryuko was having an internal conversation with her Entity, Shimiko noticed Natsuru skulking off in the other direction. Hey! Where do you think you're going?! she thought to herself as she ran to hug Natsuru as planned. The archer didn't even fight back as Shimiko embraced her. That was good, although Shimiko could tell that Nat-chan was as cold and standoff-ish as ever. Shimiko hated that aspect of her personality but she missed Natsuru so much, she couldn't help but love her in spite of it. When she returned to the Twins' side and asked them what was wrong, she had expected them to mention a training accident. What she didn't expect was for them to identify Natsuru as the perpetrator.

Shimiko's eyes narrowed as Yui went on to explain that Natsuru "accidentally" shot them in the chest with an arrow. Yui was quick to add that the situation had been settled. The Senou had apologized (a rare occurrence) and the twins felt as though the matter did not require her attention. She was proud that they had grown up so much these past few years. Beforehand, the twins would have hid behind her skirts for any small infraction. Apparently, they now felt confident that they could handle whatever life tossed their way. They were growing more independent and while that warmed her heart, it also worried her. Setting aside their growth though, Shimiko would never allow the twins to be harmed if she could help it. She also wasn't buying their story. Natsuru was one of the best snipers in Kumo. She hadn't meant to kill them, but she had intended to injure them and with her perception she should have been able to recognize Yui and Yua.

She knew who they were right? Certainly Shimiko's status as their adopted mother must have come up at least once? It was hard to say. They had drifted apart and she was having a hard time recalling what developments she had told her and what developments she had kept to herself. Whatever the case may be, she guessed from Natsuru's lack of a response that it was all true. She didn't want to sully this amazing day with an argument but she also couldn't help but feel a dark rage boil in her stomach. She suddenly remembered how spiteful and haughty this girl could be. She was glad to see that indigo hair, but not a few minutes after reuniting, she recollected how the girl had bullied her. She had never sought revenge, partially because she was too busy and partially because she thought that was all behind them. The idea that Natsuru intended to pass down such mistreatment to Yui and Yua, however, was not something she could shake off so easily.

She remained quiet but with a relatively severe expression on her face when the talk of Ayano's came up. That's when Ryuko did her dirty work for her. She offered a three-way spar and Shimiko seized on the opportunity to avenge her darlings.

"I think that's a terrific idea!" Shimiko practically squealed with delight. "A lot has changed since you guys have been gone. The world's gotten more dangerous....this city needs us now more than ever and a friendly spar is a fantastic way to shake off the rust" Shimiko wiped the residual tears from her eyes. She was going to enjoy this.
