Ashitaka just stared at the gargantuan building. At about a mile to a side and over half again that tall, the new Konoha training facility was an imposing monolith of mountainous proportions. Given that he was a freshly-minted Genin, and a child at that, he was honestly surprised they let him use the place. But use it he will, since he was going to have to pound out the flaws in the steel of his being if he was going to make it in this world. So it was that he stood about a meter away from one of the structure's massive walls where he noticed that, by accident or design, it had a tiny vertical path of ridges and recesses leading from the ground nearby to the roof.
Of course, he held no illusions of being able to crawl the entire distance any time soon, if ever, but he believed that if he tried hard enough, he might be able to climb the nearly half kilometer to the landing that indicated the top of the first floor. So he tried. But Ashitaka wasn't the strongest of boys, nor was he well-suited to incredible feats of endurance. After what felt like an hour, he looked down and around only to find that he'd only made it about 50 meters off the ground. From that point on, every successive reach for a new hand- or foothold seemed to take even more time and energy.
Finally, after reaching about 80 meters from the ground, he decided that he was too tired and gave up, and so began the perilous and exhausting trip back down. His muscles gave up while he was still around 10 meters from safety and he fell, barely managing to curl up in time to roll on impact so he could distribute the bruises instead of falling directly on something and breaking it. With some effort, he managed to get up and dust himself off, then went to look for one of the doors inside. He'd heard the place had indoor waterfalls to facilitate meditation to increase chakra, which was one of the other areas where he was sorely lacking.
