Reverse/Rebirth

Mort sat on the ground in the mountainous area of the third grounds, Oritenaus Valkyia unfolded as he ran his fingers over the lost names of his comrades. Time was supposed to make things easier for a person, and yet here he was, contemplating if he could just...end it.

They wouldn't want that. No, he was here for a reason, and while that reason was now defunct that didn't mean he couldn't make things better. Couldn't make things right. A lot of his memory was fuzzy, the jump giving his too much information, Expergisci Superego not even comparing to how it felt seeing 「」. He understood why Elif could do what she could, and why she'd never be able to again. Maybe she survived. He hope she survived, but if his ride was anything...

Something to think about later. Right now he needed to get some footing once again. Pulling out a decent-sized scroll, aptly labled 'The Mighty Warrior's NEW Secret Technique Stash', he'd begin going over the jutsu he had been able to test out so far. Most of his general knowledge had survived, but bits and pieces of the more advanced skills were something he'd need to practice again. There was also the unique skills he had picked up as the Seraph of Swords, and nearly all of his personally invested techniques didn't quite...work. He knew part of it was due to the shard stuck in his heart, but wasn't sure completely what it was yet.

It was time to stop putting it off and actually get to work. This place had new jutsu he could learn, and he'd make sure to do just that. Creating a shadow clone, he'd begin work on relearning old techniques he had once used, starting off with one he rarely used but knew he should learn as soon as he could, the Saiko Denshin.

Holding his hand to the back of the purple-eyed clone's head, he'd hesitate slightly. There was a good chance that doing this was going t have him relive painful memories, and that it could possibly break his concentration. And with Nova disturbingly quiet, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to pull it off correctly. But he had to try.

"Begin Memory Extraction."

The memories didn't come instantly, but started as a trickle, wanting to start slow despite knowing he could look months back in a matter of seconds. It was like rewinding a movie, stopping to press play at times to get a better idea of the events that happened. For the last few months, he had been a secret to Kumo, staying out of sight ever since...ever since...

Four months ago, he had been taken in by ANBU after he had tried to locate his younger self in the village. it hadn't worked out, and he had a small mental breakdown. It was a good thing they had fuinjutsu users in hand. Four months, two weeks ago he had woken up in a cave in the Land of Frost. The last thing he was able to recall then was that he needed to find Ryuko. Five months ago he was in the Land of Wind, with a group of merchants planning to go to Kumogakure. Looking back it seemed they split off around the Land of Fire for some reason.
Five months, three weeks. He had woken up in a church; dazed, confused, and with several swords piercing him to a wall like a Jahinist's ritual sacrifice.

Six Months ago. He had just used the Peacock Wisdom Queen jutsu to go back in time, or at least that's what he had tried to do. But something went wrong, very very wrong. He had planned for several dangers to occur, and as such had gained a curse of immortality to combat it, but the technique had reacted poorly to his swords, or maybe his Id, he didn't know.

To say reliving those memories hurt was an under exaggeration. It was enough that remembering the event alone was enough for him to unintentionally break his concentration on his shadow clone technique as he clutched his head. The pain of seeing it all, it was dulled, but looking at it, experiencing it again, it wasn't something he'd be able to do for a while. but he got what he was looking for.

Reforming the clone with a handseal, Mort and his double would begin working on recalling how to preform Five Elements, both the seal & unsealed variations. He knew from experience how useful in was in takedowns, so he'd begin focusing on the Sealing version first. Putting his hand on the ground he'd make several variations of the seal, each version a replica of one that he had made for each important takedown in his life, those of the Hozuki-Kaguya, the false Hyuga, and the Archer Senju. Each version of the seal held some sort of importance to him, and while they were now more powerful then ever, he could tell the formulas would need to be altered, basically confirming something he wasn't excited to find out.

The rules had changed. Not by much, but the laws that governed Fuinjutsu, and most likely everything else he knew had changed as well. No wonder there were gaps in his mental encyclopedia of jutsu knowledge. He knew of their existence, yes, but as for how to pull them off? It seems that the way he used to preform them had changed slightly. Shadow clone clearly worked like normal, but perhaps that was why his curse of immortality and bloodline went dormant shortly after he woke up. Shaking his head in slight frustration, he'd begin creating new formulas again.

After several minutes, he'd try out the new version on his clone companion, abiet a weaker one that would keep it from disappearing. heat building in his fingertips, he'd gently apply his hand to the clone's forehead and watched as it went into a suspended state. Next came the unseal variant, one that he had studied and knew how to do, but with the changes made to his body and the other changes, he had a feeling it was going to take a little bit to adapt.

Building up chakra in his hand, he'd start off with the most basic aspect of the unsealing effect: Brute Force. He'd then press his hadn into the clone, and, like before, it'd pop.

"Odd, I wonder what it is I'm forgetting this time."

Creating another clone, he'd reapply the seal and try to remove it again, slower this time.

As he went over the slow deconstruction of his Elements seal in an attempt to use the elements unseal properly, his mind began to drift again. the Five Elements Unseal was a very situational jutsu, one that he didn't really need to learn, but felt obligated to know the twin of. If he really wanted to he could do some sort of sealing inside another seal to unseal if he was ever hit by the Five Elements, but it would take a lot of time and resources to produce properly. Thoughts for another day, he'd shelve them for later as once again he was reminded that Id wasn't there for the time being as his unsealing attempt went wrong again and he poofed his clone. However, it was enough for him to get reacquainted with the jutsu once again.

Now for something a bit more exciting, a technique that he had heard of, but was never able to properly pull off for a long time: Chakra Enhanced Strength Version Two. Technically he'd been able to pull it off before, but it took some finagling because of weird chakra conflicts. But he could pull it off now without needing to focus in a kenjutsu stance or anything silly like that. Focusing the medical chakra all around his body, first he'd practice holding it. For the first few minutes, things seemed to be going well, and he'd couldn't help but smile.

"Man, I wish I was able to summon you guys right now. You'd be so proud of me, at least I hope so. Maybe, just maybe I can repair her pendant and see you all again."

Neku, Zrene, Triguno. The three hydra who he had been able to once summon, now practically lost to him. He didn't spend much time with them, but they were the only way for him to relay messages to Irah and Ngova after her...after Ryuko left. He still hadn't found her, and was starting to worry he never woulddohshit. Looking down at his hands he could see that he was gripping his fists tight enough they were starting to bleed. if that wasn't an indication of how powerful this technique was, nothing really would be. Prematurely ending his training for the moment, he'd sit down and wrap up his hands as he'd preform a few handseals to let his bloodied hands rest up.

Several minutes passed, and while the curse still hadn't kicked in, his hands had healed up by now. The fact that a jujutsu could be destabilized like this where he'd need to take a break was...well he hoped that it was only because of the new rules of this world. He knew he was being more cautious then before he even got the curse, but with this being what amounted to a new start, he was determined to try and survive.

Once again sending chakra through his arms, he'd move over to a decently-sized rock that he normally wouldn't be able to lift and, with a little difficulty picked it up. He couldn't help but grin with glee as he manage to overcome one of the greatest difficulties the Kurama have faced over the years. Setting the rock down he'd end the technique and open up his scroll, looking to see what else he could work on. Looking through it he'd see a bunch on simple jutsu he could do, and spent the next hour doing just that.

Sitting down, a little tired from the hard work he went through, he'd set his scroll of to the side. "Ooftah, you know I think that's enough for today. Probably should try and get home before it gets dark." Quickly sealing up his scroll, he'd pick up Ortenaus and clip it to his back, it'd four blades looking more like wings then actual swords at the moment.

"Now that I think about it, I wonder if anyone else that I personally know managed to end up here. I wouldn't be exactly surprised if that were the case, eh Nova?"

...

Still silence.

Maybe next time when he trained he'd be able to figure out what happened to them. He just hoped it wouldn't be much longer. Loneliness was something a Kurama was used to, let alone someone like him. Maybe a bijuu could work in restarting it? Questions for another day.
