Appearance: Oriana is a short and thin person, standing at roughly 5'1"(1.55 m) due to a life of malnutrition, neglect, and abuse. Under the care of Niko Kanuchi, she has gained some weight and begun to fill out. No longer clearly underfed, she still isn't particularly large. Modest curves have begun to form thanks to an improved diet, but it will be quite sometime before it's too much to hide with layers of baggy clothing.
Her most distinctive feature is her bubblegum pink hair, which is asymmetrical in length but usually kept pulled back in a ponytail. After that are her blue eyes. Any endearment her looks might gain her are tempered by the rather severe expression the young woman tends to wear. Lips press together firmly and her eyes often narrow a bit as though searching for deception or a threat more often than not. When not looking particularly skeptical, Oriana tends to appear lost.
Oriana's favored wear is practical, comfortable, and hides her figure. Often dressing in hooded sweatshirts that are white or dark grey with the typical Kumo vest over top along with loose-fitting pants. Despite her profession as a ninja, her clothes, nails, and hands are unusually neat and clean if not a bit worn. Oriana spends a good deal of time maintaining her hygiene and occasionally her hands will be red from too much scrubbing.
History:Parent-less and with no known living relatives, Oriana went to Kumo's ninja academy in hopes of escaping the abusive and overcrowded orphanage where she grew up just outside the village proper. Though homeless and with little to her name, Oriana worked hard and often did odd jobs to get by. When she was twelve, she discovered she could sell sexual favors for more money. Though it was disgusting to her, she did it because it was better than starving and her patrons often bought her nice clothes and gave her extra money as gifts. Rather than bond with her fellow academy students, Oriana kept to herself for fear that they might discover what she did to make ends meet. The pink haired girl was talented, but the strain of working relentlessly outside of class and trauma from being a child sex-worker hampered her progress.
Her goal was to become a genin because D-rank missions would allow her to transition away from her current life. Even though she might lose her small apartment in the beginning if she wasn't able to save enough for when she finally quit prostitution. However, before she graduated, the young woman was kidnapped and sold to a brothel outside the village.
A team of genin headed by a jounin was sent on a mission to break up some brothels known to be connected to a human trafficking ring. Importantly, one of their targets was the brothel where Oriana was trapped. The pink haired young woman used their mission to escape and help kill off the men and women who had held her captive and used her. Once the dust settled, the joining recognized her as one of a few genin who had gone missing and Oriana was brought back to Kumo with the group.
While the others tried to talk with or comfort Oriana, she responded to any attempts to interact with her with hostility. With glares, biting, and even hisses she tried to push them away. Her hostility only eased upon Niko convincing the group to give her space. Once they returned to the village, Oriana began to follow Niko around. The redhead took Oriana in upon discovering her new "admirer".
Despite her cagey attitude and paranoia, Oriana was able to establish the beginnings of a close relationship with Niko with a lot of work on both sides. She returned to the academy and became a genin, determined to be useful to the person who had rescued her and given her a place to stay when she returned to the village. The young woman began to grow more rapidly under Niko's skilled tutelage and freed from some of the heaviest burdens that weighed her down in the past.
Personality: Oriana is a shrewd and brutally practical person. Any notions of kindness for its own sake or expecting others to be helpful were thoroughly shattered during her upbringing. She is clever and observant from necessity and being forced to navigate adult issues and problems at a young age. Although capable of being ruthless, she may also exhibit begrudging kindness to those who are clearly vulnerable or weak such as children.
Her experiences have lead to a distrust in others that is difficult to unseat. Niko Kanuchi is perhaps one of the only people to fully make it past that paranoia and mistrust, and as a result has earned Oriana's loyalty and muted adoration.
Aside from Niko, Oriana prefers to keep other people at an arm's length physically and emotionally. She likes to keep others where she can watch them and manage how much she shares about herself to carefully control for the possibility of betrayal or abuse. More often than not, Oriana is stiff and formal with others. This doesn't mean she's incapable of working with others. Completing a mission or reaching a goal are enough to gain her cooperation, though not much else.
