Peer Review (Flashback)

Shimiko would escort Yui and Yua into Kumogakure's Defense Coordination Center. Apparently, they had felt rather unsafe in Kirigakure and the village had refused them access to the village's pigeon system. They also claimed that a man had attempted to assasiniate them using an explosive tag. The line between lethal force and incapacitory force was a fine one. Shimiko and the top minds of Kumogakure ANBU would get to the bottom of the situation. She'd place Yui and Yua into the building's Mind Reading Machine. She had prepped them on how it worked prior to the visit. She knew Yui would tolerate it just fine but she was worried Yua would get spooked by the experience.

"Are you guys ready?" she'd ask in a gentle voice.

She had impressed upon them the importance of intelligence gathering. If there was something off about this year's Chuunin Exams then she'd need to find out before any confrontation with Kirigakure.

The twins had made their way and they knew what was expected though Yua certainly seemed worried, he remembered nearly being blown up and his fear of fire was already known as he trembled a bit before taking a deep breath and calming down. They would both nod their heads, they had to answer what was asked or have the information extracted they were not exactly sure how it worked. They simply knew the information would be pulled from their minds.

"We are ready Shimiko, just be ready... we not sure Yua mind will remain calm and tanks to a certain friend we don't want it going berserk."

They waited for this to take effect, they were unsure why she wanted to know more about exams but they were fine with her knowing everything they know. Sure some details about their promiscuous behavior would be exposed but that was something they think Shimi had found out about the pair already.

Shimiko nodded in understanding when they mentioned that Yua would be afraid of the process. The matter of the Shukaku also complicated things.

"Its okay Yua...I will go slow...I promise."

Six weeks ought to do it she said mentally.

Shimiko placed a hand on each of their heads and began the process. She started sifting through the various memories going for a pace of three weeks at a time.

As Shimiko began it started with the first part of the exams and both of them thinking the cheater was stupid, as she continued to prowl in their minds she would see the second part of exams. They tried to surrender mot wanting to show their power but a Konoha shinobi had explosive tags on his chest that he detonated. This triggered the tailed beast but it also showed them not killing either of the shinobi they fought and in fact saving their lives. Yua would begin to shake as he tried to keep calm, the explosion striking his fear of fire and remembering his past. This would also show them having one of the genins bodies before it appeared to be summoned away baffling the twins and Miyu. The last fight showed them in a four vrs one and the twins choosing the safety of Muyu over them winning, it was too much to lose. The last part would show the pair trying to send a bird and being denied and told the kage was not going to allow them to message anyone, this lead to their letter to Shimiko and their clear derangement of thinking someone was after them.

Shimiko watched as the events of the 2nd Round of the Chuunin Exams unfolded in front of her. She witnessed the genin's foolish act of trying to blow up the twins with the explosive tag. She saw twins' violent reaction to the young man's attempt and how it had practically killed him only for his body to disappear just before they could preserve it. She also noticed how Miyu had unwisely disclosed their status during the Exams, she'd need to speak with the strawberry-headed child about discretion. She didn't need to go back any further than that instant. She had all she needed. She had ANBU take down the relevant information including distinctive illustrations of what Shinsui looked like. Once all the information that the twins had on the subject was recorded, written down, and filed into a binder. Shimiko ended the session. Yua was clearly upset and she had noticed that re-living the trauma had uipset the Beast within.

She set aside the helmet and ran to hug each of them. The Exams was a traumatic experience for them but she was proud that they prioritized their family's safety over victory.

"There, there its okay. I got you guys....you did the right thing. Miyu-chan's safety was paramount and I'm glad you recognized that. Its a good thing Akihiro took you out of Kiri when he did. After a display like that, you guys wouldn't have been safe in that village."

Shimiko gave them a light squeeze and then said: "How about we go out for a special treat? We can go anywhere you guys wanna go or I can make you some Resotototonoshokuryohin if you like" she said with a wink. No one would really know what the obscure Chinoike word meant except the twins. They had learned of its meaning from none other than Shimiko's grandmother.
